Programme Description

AIP's programmes focus on experiential learning by combining professional workplace experience with cultural immersion, enabling participants to develop practical skills, global awareness, and career readiness. Our internships are customised to individual academic and career goals, and participants benefit from structured support including placement matching, pre-departure preparation, host company introductions, and ongoing assistance during the internship. Our programme's distinctive strength lies in its tailored placements, extensive employer network, strong university partnerships, and emphasis on real-world professional development alongside cross-cultural exposure.

Participants are typically university students, recent graduates, or young professionals seeking international work experience. Placements are customised according to academic background, career goals, and professional interests, with internships available across a wide range of fields including business, marketing, IT, engineering, NGOs, finance, hospitality, and more. Applicants should demonstrate motivation for international professional experience, meet host company requirements, and be eligible to obtain the appropriate visa for the destination country.
1. Submitting an online application form on AIP’s website.
2. Completing a 1-to-1 interview with programme staff to discuss goals and suitability.
3. Acceptance into the programme once eligibility is confirmed.
4. Matching with a host company aligned to academic background and career interests. 5. Pre-departure preparation and onboarding before starting the internship.
Programme Fees

AIP charges a programme fee that covers placement matching, pre-departure support, orientation, and ongoing in-country assistance. Additional costs may include accommodation, travel, visa fees, and personal living expenses, which vary depending on the destination and duration of the internship. A deposit is required to secure a placement, with the balance payable prior to the start of the programme. Cancellations made before a specified deadline may be eligible for a refund of fees, minus administrative costs and any non-refundable deposits. Cancellations after the deadline or once the internship has started are generally non-refundable. Participants are advised to consult the programme terms for specific dates and amounts applicable to their chosen placement.
Funding & Scholarships

We offer a range of funding suggestions to help participants manage programme costs. Many universities have institutional agreements with AIP that may subsidise programme fees, and participants are encouraged to explore external funding sources such as grants, scholarships, or university financial aid. We work alongside universities to make sure this funding is sign-posted in the application process. While most AIP internships are unpaid or may include a stipend if legally permitted, fully sponsored placements are occasionally available through university partnerships or third-party schemes. We always encourage students to access guidance on funding and potential university support to make the programme more affordable in the application process.
Travel

Participants generally travel independently to their internship destination, with most placements located in major Asian cities such as Bangkok, Seoul, Tokyo, Singapore, and others. While costs vary significantly depending on season and destination, return flights from the UK to Asia typically range approximately from £400–£700 in economy class when booked in advance.
Visas

Visa requirements depend on the destination country and internship type, as regulations vary across Asia and other locations. Participants are responsible for obtaining the appropriate visa or work authorisation, but our placement team provide guidance on documentation, application procedures, and preparation to help ensure compliance with local immigration requirements. Visa costs vary by country and duration of stay, so applicants are advised to confirm fees with the relevant embassy or consulate once placement details are finalised.
Participants receive comprehensive on-ground support throughout their internship, with dedicated local staff based in each destination providing direct assistance whenever needed. A 24/7 emergency support system ensures participants have access to immediate help for urgent issues, wellbeing concerns, or unexpected situations while overseas. Upon arrival, participants are supported with orientation covering workplace expectations, local culture, practical living guidance, and safety information to help them settle in quickly and confidently. Ongoing in-country support includes regular check-ins, access to local coordinators, and assistance with professional, logistical, or personal matters, ensuring participants feel supported, safe, and fully able to focus on their internship experience.
The programme is designed as a structured experiential learning experience rather than a traditional classroom-based course. Participants receive pre-departure preparation, professional coaching, and guidance throughout the internship to help maximise learning outcomes, develop intercultural competence, and strengthen career readiness. Many internships are credit-bearing through partner universities, and the programme emphasises reflective learning, professional skill development, and practical workplace experience that participants can clearly articulate in future academic or career contexts.
Accommodation support varies by destination but typically includes assistance securing safe, convenient housing aligned with participants’ budget and preferences. Options may include shared apartments, student-style residences, or other vetted accommodation providers located within reasonable commuting distance of internship sites. Programme staff provide guidance on housing arrangements before arrival and remain available to assist with any accommodation-related issues during the internship, helping ensure participants have a comfortable and secure living environment while abroad.
Participant health, safety, and wellbeing are supported through structured risk management processes, established local partnerships, and programme oversight aligned with host-country regulations and recognised international good practice. Asia Internship Program works with vetted host organisations across Asia to ensure placements take place in professional environments that meet appropriate legal, workplace, and operational standards. Pre-departure guidance helps prepare participants for cultural adjustment, professional expectations, and local compliance requirements. Participants are supported by locally based programme staff who provide on-the-ground assistance throughout the internship, including arrival orientation covering workplace norms, practical living guidance, and safety considerations. Ongoing pastoral and logistical support is available via clear communication channels with programme coordinators and host organisations, helping ensure participant wellbeing, regulatory compliance, and a safe, professionally managed international internship experience.

Why we like Asia Internship Program (AIP)

AIP often fly under the radar for UK students despite being around for 13 years. We brought them onto the Departure Board for their range of destinations, high quality programmes and outstanding local support. They are particularly well established in Thailand, which is a destination we believe is often overlooked when it comes to internships.
