Third-Party Providers

Why join the Departure Board?

Access to UK universities. People working in study abroad, student mobility and placement teams at Universities and Colleges around the UK receive emails every day from providers of overseas experiences. They often want to be able to recommend high quality, reputable providers to their students but don’t know who to trust and don’t have the capacity to manage agreements with multiple providers. They’re also often afraid that engaging directly with a provider might end up in a sales pitch for funding they’re unlikely to have. By listing your programmes on the Departure Board and completing our due diligence process, you’re accessing a group of these professionals who have partnered with us to give their students access to the best opportunities.

Visibility to 1,000s of students. Bring your opportunities to students from across the UK through our platform. We aim to be the destination for any UK-based student considering a period of work experience or volunteering overseas and a source of reassurance for parents and educators. By joining the Departure Board you’ll also be included in our communications to partner universities and colleges.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Are providers a focus of the platform or are you developing direct company relationships rather than providers?

We want to create a healthy mix of direct company relationships and providers. This way we can reach a wider student audience and position providers as part of a curated list of the most reputable and ethical programmes.

There are a few things that should help mitigate that kind of outcome:

  1. We ensure that the value of booking with a provider is clear so that students are more inclinded to take part with your support than go direct.
  2. We raise your profile with UK universities who may have funding to cover your program fee, which removes any motivation for a student to recommend future students bypassing you.
  3. If your programme is valuable to students and companies, students are always more likely to refer to you rather than the company they interned with. Companies won’t be interested in listing directly and thereby missing out on your support.
  4. Include something in your company agreements to prevent them from listing on the Departure Board, if you think that level of protection would give reassurance.

Our ambition is to grow the overall number of opportunities out there each year by encouraging students to create listings for a self-sourced placement that might otherwise never repeat. There may be a small number of opportunities which shift from provider to direct or vice-versa: I’m certain some companies will list an internship, find the hiring and support processes time-consuming and use the platform to seek out a provider in their city who can make things easier. Ideally this will balance out and overall we’ll create a net gain of opportunities without undermining any providers’ programmes.
