Disclaimer - Important Notice for Students
The Departure Board strives to ensure, to the best of our ability, that all listed work placements and employers are legitimate opportunities and represent responsible, reputable organisations. Each placement is reviewed carefully before being published.
However, we cannot guarantee the accuracy or ongoing reliability of every listing. Circumstances and employer practices may change without our knowledge.
Therefore, it is each student’s responsibility to independently verify the details and legitimacy of any opportunity before committing.
By applying for or accepting a placement through The Departure Board, students acknowledge that they have read this disclaimer and understand that final responsibility for confirming the opportunity’s suitability and safety lies with them.
Before confirming any work placement abroad, students should take the following steps:
Research the organisation
⦿ Check the organisation’s official website, registered address, and contact information.
⦿ Search online for reviews or testimonials from previous interns or employees.
⦿ Verify if the company is legally registered in its country.
⦿ Look for accreditations or partnerships with universities or recognised organisations.
⦿ Be cautious if the company asks for payment to secure the role or offers unclear job details - these are red flags.
Understand the Role
⦿ Request a written job description outlining your tasks, expected hours, and line management.
⦿ Clarify whether the position is paid or unpaid, and confirm if any accommodation, meals, or travel expenses are provided.
⦿ Ask about supervision and mentorship - identify who will be your main point of contact.
⦿ Check that the placement aligns with your course objectives and skills development goals.
⦿ Confirm start and end dates, and ensure these fit your academic calendar and visa start and end dates.
⦿ Keep copies of all emails, contracts, and agreements for your records.
